and although off the usual tourist circuit is filled with interest and charm.
From the old town, there is a magnificent view out over the Umbrian plain all the way from
Perugia
to
Spoleto. Restaurant recommendations based on personal experience: - La Bastiglia - located in the hotel of the same name - outstanding food, reasonable prices. - Il Molino - also highly imaginative and outstanding food. Wines of Spello - Passito, which can be red or white, is a highly recommended sweet dessert wine - not cloying, really excellent. In the vicinity of Spello, there are two mediaeval villages of particular interest, Collepino and San Giovanni. From Collepino, a panoramic road crosses Monte Subasio leading to a hermitage known as the Eremo delle Carceri di Assisi about 4 km from Assisi. More on Spello coming here soon. |
